In contrast to Evaluation, which is a qualitative assessment, the patent valuation or monetary patent appraisement is a quantitative assessment by which a numerical value is given at the end.
An occasion for the assessment of a single patent or a whole patent portfolio can be, when for example, a forthcoming disposal or transference of IP rights is planned. For young technology enterprises it is recommended to make a patent assessment as part of evaluation of the company on the approach of financing rounds.
